This week I was unwell so was unable to attend the workshops in real life. However when I was able to start working again it was nice and simple to catch up. Working from the VLE showed me how easy it is to go back and look at previous workshops. I hope to start doing this with my future workshops to consolidate my knowledge and to help me write my notes.
I was introduced to new software’s, Git Hub and Visual Studio code. The purpose of Git Hub (tracking changes to your code) was also new to me, but I can see how beneficial this is going to be in the future.
I am used to using websites such as Repelit when developing programs, so using VS code was very different. It was challenging to start with and I got quite frustrated with it, but as I continued, asked for help and followed tutorials it got much easier. I now see how great it is and will definitely be using it for anything I create in the future. I also discussed my frustrations with VS code with my dad, who uses it and Git Hub at his work (as a software developer), so this makes me very optimistic about developing the right skills to be employable after I graduate.
The next workshop was learning the basics of HTML. I had some experience with HTML in sixth form, so this was a comfortable start to unit 1A. I was a bit rusty with my knowledge on the subject so it was very useful to go over it again in more detail. I remembered how much I enjoy developing websites using HTML, and also how I could keep doing it for hours without noticing. I ended up creating my own website, separate from the class at home, which was a lot of fun.
