This month, I started to think about my research report. I found myself debating between 2 different themes: Bias in Machines and Androids in Media. Bias in machines/AI and bias in general are topics I’ve read up on a lot and find really interesting, especially since I love the amount of statistics involved. However, I felt myself drawn towards Androids in media even though I wasn’t sure what I’d be analysing about them/ what the second half of that title would be.

As part of my research, I decided to start watching films featuring androids and robots, starting with Ex Machina (which I went into completely blind, only knowing that an android was featured). This was a great first watch since the amount of frustration and anger that came from watching it inspired my first working title: Examining the Trend of Feminine Features in Servient Robots: and How it Perpetuates the Objectification of Women. Being so passionate about this theme has made working on my report proposal really fun and something I look forward to, albeit a little depressing at times, as I was reading primarily about misogyny.
