Continuing on my VR room unity project, this week, we got to try using VR headsets to see our rooms. I had never used a VR headset before, and I found it a bit freaky and even a little nauseating, but hopefully, I’ll warm up to it as I get further into the XR project. Aside from my feelings about wearing the headset, it was still exciting to look around the room I created. I did, however, have the issue of being spawned in under a piece of furniture, which was very disorienting. It took a lot of trial and error, including being underneath the room entirely, but I fixed this issue and did have some fun trying out some of the features I had implemented into my room, such as teleporting to certain spots and picking up objects.
This week was also my first time using Blender. I was looking forward to learning about It so that I could understand what my flatmates (animation students) are talking about all the time. Although it has quite an intimidating user interface, the workshop was very informative and introduced everything at a gradual pace. At the end of the workshop, I was able to put my 3D Polycam scan from last week into Blender and got to see just how many faces my whale had. Next week, I hope to be able to polish and clean it up.
